Reiki Principles – In a world where almost every other person is suffering from some or other kind of disease, our reliance on medical treatments and therapies are at an all-time high. Though the medical field has advanced to a great extent with new age technology and advanced studies, there are still many of us who want to try alternative methods of therapy or healing. One such very popular therapy is Reiki.

Reiki is extensively practiced throughout the world. Alternatively called Energy healing, Reiki specializes in healing not only the body but also the mind and spirit of the person undergoing treatment. This whole therapy is provided by a Reiki practitioner.

The Levels of Reiki

There are three distinct levels of Reiki. Anyone who is interested in learning this art needs to progress their way through these three (3) levels:

Reiki Level 1: The First Degree

The first level of Reiki is also known as the First Degree or the ‘Shoden’. This level of Reiki is open to anyone. There are no pre-requisites needed. This level covers an understanding of what is Reiki, what is the background, how does it work. It initiates a person to the Reiki world.

The person learning Reiki level one is taken through a process to open up their own energy channels and connect with the universal source of energy. 

It is suggested at this level that the students practice the Reiki principles they have learned on themselves to fully get profess in the use of basic Reiki techniques. After completing the course the students go through a four step “Attunement” process which connects them to the universal life force energy.

Reiki Level 2: The Second Degree

The second level of Reiki is also known as the Second Degree or the ‘Okuden’. Students who have completed their First Degree of Reiki are allowed to start learning the second degree.

However, it is highly recommended that they give a gap of at least three months before entering the second degree. This is the level where the students are equipped with appropriate techniques to be able to practice Reiki on others along with themselves.

This level of Reiki also teaches techniques of long distance healing through Reiki, no matter where the person being treated is staying. It is at this stage that the student also gets introduced to five important symbols of Reiki.

These symbols are harmony, power, mastery, distance, and completion. The attunement process for the second degree happens in one single step as compared to the four step process in the first degree of Reiki.

Reiki Level 3: The Third Degree

The third level of the Reiki is also known as the Third Degree or the ‘Shinpiden’. People who complete their third level of Reiki are more popularly known as the “Reiki Master”. Reiki Masters are fully committed to the entire Reiki practice.

They need a tremendous amount of practice and commitment to be able to understand in-depth of various techniques. Reiki masters are also responsible for teaching Reiki to the new students who want to be initiated to Reiki. They also actively practice healing of others using their Reiki skills.

Reiki Crystals or Reiki Stones

When you go through the various levels of Reiki, you will also get introduced to Reiki Crystals or Reiki Stones. The crystals used in Reiki are considered to have additional healing properties. While Reiki is healing your body and taking you towards physical and spiritual happiness, the Reiki crystals boost these healing effects of Reiki. Reiki practitioners tend to keep these crystals around you or on you, during a Reiki session.

There are various types of Reiki crystals available. I am listing a few below to give you an idea of what these crystals are and how they may benefit you during a healing session:

  1. The Onyx helps in cleansing your environment and removes all negative energy that might be stored in and around you
  2. The Quartz has tremendous benefits in relieving all the anxiety and stress built up inside you.
  3. The Opal is famous for its health benefits. It is also beneficial in improving your creative side.
  4. The Agate is excellent for removing all the toxins
  5. Garnet is excellent for health issues like backaches and others
  6. Citrine is excellent to improve your memory and concentration

And so on…

Principles of Reiki

The principles of Reiki were laid down by its founder, Mikao Usui. The purpose of these principles is to help you grow personally and spiritually. These principles show a way of living. These principles of Reiki help you live a more healthy, happy and balanced life. Take these principles as a guidance to manifest your dream of a happy life.

1. Principle of Reiki : Just for today “Do not worry”

Just let go of all your worries for one day. Take one day at a time. Just for today make sure you keep your mind free of all pressures and stress. Imagine just one single day of peace and see how it feels. Then imagine every day you live like that. Such a wonderful life would it be!

To practice this principle, when you wake up every day, just take a deep breath and say out loud “I make myself free of all the worries I have”

2. Principle of Reiki: Just for today “Do not anger”

Anger comes naturally to everyone. It’s not something you need to feel bad about later. It is more important to understand the root cause of your anger and try to deal with the underlying issue.

Suppressing your emotions is not a solution, rather it is important we face our emotions and understand what makes us feel angry. It is important we know how to handle ourselves and the scenario when our anger gets triggered.

To practice this principle, when you wake up every day, take a deep breath and say it loud “I release all my angry feelings” “I understand my emotions and I know how to handle them in the best way”

3. Principle of Reiki: Just for today “Be grateful”

What can be more gracious of us than being thankful for all the wonderful things we have in our lives. Every day when we wake up, we have choice, whether to be mournful and sad over our miseries, or be grateful for our blessings.

So many people around us would be craving to lead a life like ours. You can be blessed in so many ways. You might be having the best supportive family, you might be blessed with good fortune, you might be blessed with excellent skills, and you might have the best of friends.

There are numerous things in each of our lives that we should be thankful for. To practice this principle, when you wake up every day, take a deep breath and say it loud “I am grateful for what I have” “I am thankful for all my blessings”

4. Principle of Reiki: Just for today “Work with Diligence”

Working with diligence means to put all your concentration and efforts into your work and duties. Needless to say, in order to succeed in your work you need to put in all the effort required. No one ever succeeded by just thinking about what they want. It is equally important to put in the hard work into it.

We all are fortunate enough to be able to learn various skills through experience or through teaching. Not practicing them in our day to day life will easily make us forget all our skills and we would not progress in our lives.

It is important we remember all the knowledge we have gathered over the years and practice it with all honesty and effort. To practice this principle, wake up every day, take a deep breath and say it out loud – “I appreciate my skills and will use it with all diligence” and then with full commitment work on your tasks or duties.

5. Principle of Reiki: Just for today “Be kind to others”

Kindness is one of the best virtues to have and practice.  Don’t you wish that others are always kind to you and try to understand your situation and perspective? The same should come out in your own behavior towards others.

Always strive to be the first one to spread kindness around you. Be a role model for others. Show people that you care. Be compassionate. Understand other people’s perspectives. See how you can be of help to others.

To practice this principle, wake up every day, take a deep breath and say it loud – “I will be kind to others” “I understand other people’s perspective” “I care for others feelings as much as I would like them to care for mine”
